Course code: PGDA

Level:  Advance Diploma

Duration: 2years

Overview

PGD in anaesthesia is two years program organized by NIHS under the leadership of MOH- Directorate of Training and Professional Development.

Availability of competent and efficient human resources in the health sector is essential in the provision of the health services expected of the Government of South Sudan. A system that enhances the delivery of right quality and caliber of human resources through training is critical.

Justification

The MOH introduced an innovation advocating for access to essential health care for all at all levels of the health sector. This involved establishing operational medical theatres at County hospital, significantly increasing the need for professionally trained anesthetic officers.

This programme aims to increase quality care in anesthetic services by producing an anesthetic officer who is innovative, resourceful, has the capacity to make independent decisions and can execute her/his duty with competence and creativity. This cadre has a unique role in peri-operative anesthesia management for successful surgical operations. The curriculum guides the training of anesthetic officers to provide high-quality anesthetic care and improve outcomes for surgical patients.

The program is to produce competent Anesthetic Officers at a Post Graduate Diploma level to provide effective anesthetic services with minimum supervision to improve quality of health care. The programme will enable the graduand anesthetists to achieve the following objectives at the end of the training period:
